Materials Engineer
Job Details
Lexmark International is in search of a skilled Materials Engineer to join our team. As a Materials Engineer, you will be working closely with the Development, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering teams to assist in the day-to-day operations of a material analysis laboratory including managing laboratory equipment and consumables, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and collaborating with other departments, external supplier, and customers.
The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to learn and become proficient in operating laboratory equipment such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Digital Light Microscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Liquid Chromatography (LC), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC/SEC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and other related instruments.
Essential Duties:
- Fosters an environment of mutual respect, dignity, and trust
- Performs analyses on samples & develops new methods and techniques for analyzing samples
- Keeps accurate records of experimental results, and interprets and analyzes data
- Communicates test results with offsite and internal customers to ensure quality satisfaction
- Facilitates and promotes use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action
- Manages and maintains lab equipment including calibration, repair, and preventive maintenance
- Coordinates the ordering and inventory management of laboratory consumables and reagents
- Establishes and maintain relationships with suppliers, including vendor technical contacts
- Acts as the Boulder site focal point person for coordinating and leading the implementation of new analytical instrumentations at Boulder site
- Stays up-to-date with new analytical techniques and instrumentation
- Follows laboratory safety protocols
- Provides training and calibration support to Site Quality Technicians on analytical instruments
Job Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures, including calibration and maintenance

- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and problem solve
- Knowledge of applicable safety requirements
- Proven ability to interact with customers, both internal and external, in a professional and effective manner
Education or Formal Training:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or related technical discipline
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working with a variety of laboratory instruments and techniques
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the chemical industry desirable
- Experience with new product introductions and in transitioning products from R&D to high volume manufacturing is highly desirable
Working Environment
- Works with various laboratory chemicals and around analytical equipment in the laboratory
- Able to work independently
- Must be willing to work occasional off shift work
- Must meet the requirements to work in a U.S. Foreign Trade Zone (as defined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection)

Salary Range
- $85,000 - $130,000
