Portfolio manager Andy Mattice wins Lexmark’s top employee award for going above and beyond
Andy Mattice isn’t your average portfolio manager for retail software.
He’s actually a coder in disguise.
Software coding skills he gained from a previous role were essential recently when a Lexmark customer critically needed a Lexmark Retail Publishing Platform technical integration that was on the roadmap but wasn’t immediately available. Because the development team had its hands full with other projects, Mattice took things into his own hands – literally. He coded the integration himself — saving time and resources and going above and beyond to support a customer.
“If a Lexmarker I’m working with is overburdened, I will go out of my way to make sure they succeed,” Mattice said. “To me, it elevates everything we do and helps us move forward and be better together.”
There are so many people who are doing their best work to serve our customers.

Over months of daily meetings, Mattice balanced the coding project with his regular duties as portfolio manager. In the end, his innovative solution for the Lexmark customer passed all quality tests, enabling the retailer a path to roll out the signage solution across the store’s network – further cementing Lexmark’s already-strong relationship with the customer and showcasing Lexmark’s vision for helping customers make a lasting impression on their world.
Stepping up leads to top award
On Feb. 6, Mattice was named winner of the 2024 Make a Lasting Impression Award, Lexmark’s highest employee honor. A global employee committee selects the award winner.
"Andy is the go-to when we need an out-of-the-box retail solution for one of our customers,” said Mattice’s nominator, Craig Bertelsen, regional sales manager for Lexmark retail solutions. “He is not afraid to push the bounds of what our product can do and what we can deliver to make the customer successful.”
Mattice, who is based in Seattle, joined Lexmark in 2013 with the acquisition of retail signage company AccessVia, where he wrote software for eight years. He is a key member of the team that support’s Lexmark’s presence at the annual National Retail Federation trade show in New York, the London Retail Technology Show and other important retail industry events. Plus, he often travels to support Lexmark’s retail customers around the world.
Giving back is key for Mattice
"I am honored and humbled to win this award," Mattice said. "I share it with everyone that I have worked with on projects at Lexmark. We have amazing teamwork here, and there are so many people who are doing their best work to serve our customers."
Mattice plans to donate the money that comes with the award to the Kiva foundation, which provides interest-free microloans to businesses in developing countries. He said, "My mantra is whatever I can do to help other people be successful will in turn come back to me to make me successful."
