JOHANNESBURG, 9 September 2015
Lexmark South Africa will host its annual Charity Golf Day to raise funds for the Andrew Mlangeni Foundation, on the 22nd of October 2015 at the Blue Valley Golf Estate in Johannesburg.
This is the 3rd time that Lexmark will host the golf day for the Andrew Mlangeni Foundation, which was established by struggle stalwart Andrew Mlangeni in memory of his late wife June. Andrew Mlangeni himself is a true golfing enthusiast and boasts a handicap of 16 at the age of 90.
While Andrew was imprisoned with Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu and others on Robben Island, June Mlangeni cared for the elderly in Dube Soweto, by making them clothes and preparing meals for them. The sole purpose of the Andrew Molangeni Foundation is to carry on her legacy and use funds raised to ensure the comfort of the elderly of Soweto.
The Foundation has grown over the years to include many dedicated volunteers who give freely of their time and efforts, and has expanded to include many wards in Soweto, bringing blankets and food to the elderly.
“This initiative is important to Lexmark because we are committed to the communities in which we live and work, to make them better places for our neighbours, our partners, our employees and our children as well as generations to come,” says Nathan Nayagar Managing Director for Lexmark - South Africa & English Speaking Africa.
The theme of this year’s event is Par-Tee and Lexmark will be “par-teeing” on the greens with a purpose. “We have a lot to celebrate following our new branding earlier in the year which represents our successful and ongoing transition to a company well beyond our hardware heritage,” explains Nayagar. “Lexmark is about driving change and achieving new milestones. Our focus on sustainability and customers for life is well represented in this initiative, which embodies evolution as well as our vision for the future.”
“Likewise the golf day celebrates the evolution of the work that June Mlangeni so selflessly started which has evolved to affect so many more lives in Soweto.”
